PARADISE - The Sanders County Coroner has released the names of the couple who were killed in a head-on crash which happened near Paradise over the weekend.

The victims are Rudy Arriaga, 78 and Beverly Smith-Arriaga, 60, both of of Columbia Falls. The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday on Montana Highway 135 at mile marker 18.

The man was the driver and his wife was the passenger in the car and the Montana Highway Patrol reports the couple were traveling north and swerved off the highway.

The car then traveled back onto the highway, crossed over into the other lane of traffic and hit an SUV head-on.

The couple's car caught on fire and they were pronounced dead on the scene. Meanwhile, the four people in the SUV remain in the hospital with unknown injuries.

The bodies of the Arriaga couple are at the Montana State Crime Lab and it's still noth known if alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
