The Parker Homestead near Three Forks is no longer a state park. The 25-year lease for the small state park expired on January 1.
"It's just this analyzation process we're doing of all the units in the state park system. Cost is a factor, our ability to staff it. We looked at parks that have less than statewide significance. This is more of a locally significant park reflected the homestead era and very small about a quarter of an acre," Regional State Park Manager Jerry Walker said.
The small state park was leased from a private family and will remain in private ownership. There are now 55 state parks across Montana, nine of which are in the Bozeman area.
