DILLON- The new Barrett Hospital in Dillon is officially open.

Thursday began at 6:40 a.m. when patients were transferred from the old building to the new facility. Nine patients were moved in five minute increments by ambulance and the process was complete in nearly 45 minutes.

All of the patients were in high spirits and happy to be in their new and spacious rooms according to Barrett Hospital Hospitalist Anna Loge.

Ambulance, hospital staff and volunteers have been preparing to make the move since April. It was important to make sure the patients were comfortable and safe during the transfer process.

"Overall we had a very good experience for everyone," Ken Westman, Barrett Hospital CEO said. "Everyone did a great job working together."

Furniture and equipment need to still be cleared out of the old Barrett Hospital building. Much of the old furniture will be sold in a garage sale scheduled for June 30. On July 1 the old facility will be turned over to demolition contractors.
