LIBBY- A pedestrian visiting from Canada was struck and killed by a semi truck in northwestern Montana early on Friday morning.
The Montana Highway Patrol reports that a driver of a Hanson Trucking Inc. semi-truck was headed southbound on U.S. Highway 93 near Eureka when the pedestrian was hit.
MHP reports the driver of the semi, who's from Columbia Falls, was returning from a Canada delivery of wood chips when he hit Lori Lavigne, 33, of Vancouver BC who was in the Eureka area on vacation.
Troopers say the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and was leaving the southbound lane of travel at the time of the collision.
Lavigne was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel and officials say alcohol use appears to be a factor for the pedestrian.
The driver of the truck was not injured and no charges have been filed in the case, which will be reviewed by the Lincoln County Attorney.
