PLENTYWOOD - The Montana State Department of Justice has released new details into an officer-involved shooting in Plentywood on Saturday that led to the death of Bryan Reyes Havard, 27.
Officials say Havard, an oil field worker from Plentywood, first led two sheriff deputies on a high-speed chase after they attempted to pull him over for a traffic violation.
Havard then fled on foot into a casino near Plentywood, brandishing a pistol and engaging the officers on several occasions.
Justice department officials say Havard was eventually shot and killed near the main entrance to the casino.
Two Sheridan County deputies are on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
An autopsy was performed on Havard Monday in Billings, and authorities are still awaiting the toxicology report.
The Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
Once the investigation is complete, a coroner's inquest will be held in Sheridan County.
