BUTTE - Police are treating Monday's fire at a produce and supply building in the Mining City as suspicious and are considering arson as the possible cause, according to Police Captain Doug Conway.
Law enforcement officials are assisting in the investigation that was officially launched on Wednesday Conway said.
The fire was reported at 12 a.m. Monday. Fire Marshal John Lasky says the blaze may have erupted in the basement.
Butte Produce and Supply is located only one block north of the National Hotel Building, which was destroyed by fire last week. On Wednesday, Conway said he does not believe the two fires are connected. He confirmed that they are reviewing surveillance footage from security cameras in the area of the fire.
On Tuesday, a backhoe was used to tear down a wall on the south side of the produce building to allow fire investigators inside to examine the charred remains.
