POLSON - A Polson man has pleaded not guilty to raping and killing an Elmo man earlier this year.
Melvin Madplume, Jr. appeared in Lake County District Court Thursday morning before Judge Kim Christopher.
He pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide and sexual intercourse without consent in connection with the death of Lawrence Kenmille, 28.
Authorities were called to Wild Horse Hot Springs in Lake County on May 25 where Kenmille was found unconscious and later died.
A coroner later determined the cause of death was drowning, and the manner of death was homicidal violence.
Madplume turned himself in last week, several days after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Court documents reveal that the two men may have been cousins.
Madplume is being held in the Lake County jail.
