MISSOULA - A Missoula neighborhood project which was about a decade in the making is finally a reality.
Members of the Missoula City Council and other community members watched the ribbon cutting for the Rattlesnake Gateway Redevelopment on Thursday.
The project brought sidewalks to both sides of Greenough Drive from the railroad crossing to the Waterworks Hill trailhead and also includes 15 new curb ramps, bike lanes, new street crossings and new paving.
The project complements the 2008 reconstruction of the railroad crossing in the same area.
"It's going to mean safety for pedestrians, safety for folks who ride their bikes, because now we have defined bike lanes. It's going to be greater safety for those who drive their motor vehicles," said Missoula City Council Ward 1's Dave Strohmaier.
The majority of the project, which cost around $300,000, was funded by the federal stimulus money.
