DARBY- The snow may be scarce in much of the state, but the weather out by Darby is a whole different story.
"We have really good snow, really good weather," said Darby Dog Derby organizer, Nicki Arndt.
This year brought out record numbers for the Darby Dog Derby. as 24 sled dog teams came out to race, some coming from as far away as Massachusetts.
"It was worth it. It's a fun race, nice people out here, really fun," said Massachusetts sled dog racer Bailey Vitello.
The event caters to all types of people. "We've raised the caliber without losing our intention of having this be a race for the kids, the beginners and the families to try it out and feel like it's their race too," said Arndt.
The Derby brings out the thrill seekers. "Just hearing the dogs panting and just the sound of the wind rushing past your face," said racer Julia Larsen, "it's just incredible."
The sightseers. "We're not overly competitive and so we're just out their enjoying the trails," said racer Brandi Williamson.
And the crazy dogs! Each dog is required to get a vet check-up before attending the event, ensuring all animals are healthy and well taken care of before the race begins.
