MISSOULA- There are just 16 games to go in the regular season and the Missoula Maulers find themselves where they've never been before in their five year history, all alone in first place. Part of that success belongs to two players with the same name, who are on the ice at the same time and also play the same position.
Number 24 Corey Schafer is from Pennsylvania and is a high school senior who was picked up in a trade earlier this season with Great Falls. Number 25 Cory Shafer is from Michigan and is two years older, has already graduated from high school, and was already with the team.
Two guys with the same name are among the team's top 10 scorers.
"When I found out we got him in a trade I was a little skeptical but he's a good kid and a hard worker," Cory Shafer added.
"We're kind of like twins. We like to call each other twins, but that's about it," Corey concluded.
The Maulers lead defending league and national champion Helena by just two points with Billings eight points back. Missoula's next four games are all against the Bulls, including back-to-back home games on Friday and Saturday at the Glacier Ice Rink.
