BUTTE- The sentencing date has been set for a Butte man who pleaded guilty to felony charges stemming from a high-speed crash near Anaconda that took the life of a Missoula prosecutor.
David Bugni, 26, will learn his fate on September 9th. Back in July he appeared before Butte District Judge Ray Dayton and admitted to driving at a high rate of speed on Interstate 90 on Sept. 25, 2009 and colliding with a vehicle driven by Judy Wang, 57, of Missoula who was killed in the crash.
Blood samples taken from Bugni after the crash tested positive for alcohol and marijuana but with a blood alcohol level below the legal limit.
Bugni pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and criminal endangerment and as part of a plea deal, prosecutors recommend Bugni be sentenced to 20 years in the Montana State Prison with 10 years suspended for negligent homicide and 10 years in the state prison with 5 years suspended for criminal endangerment.
The County Attorney is requesting that the sentences run concurrently and Bugni be ordered to pay $10,000 in fines.
Dayton is not bound by the plea agreement and a pre-sentence investigation was ordered. Bugni remains free after posting a $100,000 bond.
