WEST YELLOWSTONE- A small earthquake hit the area near West Yellowstone early Tuesday morning. But the quake was pretty small. And unless you were right on top of it you probably wouldn't have noticed.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake measured a magnitude 2.5 and was recorded around 6:40am. The quake was a moderate depth, about 6.5 miles beneath the earth's surface.

The epicenter of the quake was 11-miles north-northwest of West Yellowstone and about 22-miles northeast of Island Park, Idaho.
That part of the region is no stranger to small quakes, which are recorded several times each year in the area extending from Yellowstone north along the Divide and the Montana-Idaho border.
