ST. IGNATIUS - The second phase of the Skate Ignatius project started up on Monday morning and was already well on its way by midday.
Dreamland Skate Parks worked on phase one, and will now finish the project.
"We get people from all over the world that come to the skate park and they can't believe that quality of it and the beautiful location," said Kristie Nerby, Skate Ignatius Project Coordinator.
The next phase will add 35,000 square feet to the existing 7,000 square feet. It will also have a steeper bowl for better skaters who want to challenge themselves.
"We get a lot of high profile people through here, it's a diamond in the rough and they say they are all coming back for phase two," said Nerby.
The Recreation Coalition wants to add benches, water fountains, garbage cans, and a pavilion for picnics to the park. It's in the central part of town so kids can walk or ride their bikes.
"To keep these young boys and young men out of trouble and give them a healthy thing to do instead of some other stuff they could be doing that was our goal from the beginning," said Nerby.
Right now organizers still need donations for phase two, they said in the last week they have received almost $1,500 but are still a few thousand dollars away from their goal.
"Its a slow process, we're all volunteers and we're all trying to take a piece of it and move it forward," said Nerby.
