BOZEMAN - Kevin Briggs is still on the loose after escaping the Law and Justice Center in Bozeman on Saturday morning.
Reporter Keele Smith was able to see where Briggs was most recently living and spoke with neighbors who are still in shock.
Lindsey Heinemann is a resident of the Southbrook apartment complex where Briggs lived. "He creeped me out from the get go," Heinemann said.
Heinemann and her family are neighbors of Briggs, and she says they had to leave the building on Saturday so that search and rescue teams could search Briggs' apartment.
"We already knew at that point what they were doing. It took about an hour and a half before they let us back in," she said.
Briggs' apartment is in the Southbrook complex. Some of his neighbors say he has always been a polite guy and they are completely surprised with his recent behavior.
"We knew he had problems in the past, assumed drug charges but never thought anything this serious," Heinemann said.
Another neighbor who knows Briggs did not want to comment on camera but says she was shocked to find out about Briggs' history.
Briggs is a registered sex offender. Officers were questioning him for a report of a sexual intercourse without consent and assault with a weapon using a knife.
That's when he escaped from the Law and Justice Center, still shackled. While police do not know where he is, they are keeping an eye on the apartment complex.
"Wish I had looked him up before," Heinemann said. "But at this point, I don't feel unsafe because he'd be pretty stupid to come back here at this point."
"I just want him caught and hopefully, a nice family will move in downstairs," she said.
Briggs has escaped custody twice before and has previous kidnapping and sexual intercourse without consent charges.
