Students learn about military academy options

GREAT FALLS - Graduation is right around the corner and many high school students are looking at their options for college.

For some, that may mean the military, and on Saturday, Montana's Congressional delegation gave students a chance to explore the possibility of joining the armed services.

The event featured representatives from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Naval Academy.

U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) says the competition among students is intense.

"The important thing here is, it's incredibly fierce competition to get in to these academies. I mean these kids have to do well academically, they have to do well with public service in their communities, and it's just a real sign of them doing everything right."

To be accepted into an academy, a students must receive a nomination from one of Montana's U.S. Senators or U.S. Representative.
