BIGFORK - Bigfork High School students are building interactive online features for over a dozen different state-wide projects with agencies like the Department of Transportation and the Forest Service.

What started out as a club, is now a full-fledged class called Geographic Information System, taught by Mr. Hans Bodenhamer.

Students are learning how to capture vital geographical information, such as mapping caves in Glacier National Park to tracking migratory bird data for FWP.

Essentially, these students are doing the work of professionals in a high school classroom.

Mr. Bodenhamer says it's time to embrace technology in school, "I think we kind of need to change some things in education. Have it make more sense for the students, bring in the technology, just make it more relevant to the way the world is going."

Mr. Bodenhamer says the class is working on creating apps for smart phones, based on their geographical findings in the state.
