BIG SKY- A New York teen has been charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence after an ATV crash that killed another teen at the Yellowstone Club.
James Sinclair Welch, 19, of Bronxville, New York is being held at the Gallatin County Detention Center. He was arrested in connection with the death of Parker Regan, 19, of Mendham, NJ, who died from injuries sustained in the Thursday night ATV crash.
The ATV crash was reported to authorities at around 11:50 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the Gallatin County Sheriff's Department. CPR and first aid were administered to the ATV's passenger, Parker Regan, 19, of Mendham, New Jersey, but he died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Court documents state a Montana Highway Patrol trooper who interviewed Welch after the crash said Welch smelled strongly of alcohol and his eyes were red, watery and bloodshot, and his clothes were soiled and bloody.
Welch reportedly told the trooper that he had been driving the ATV and Regan fell out while he was negotiating a curve. A crash investigation showed he had been driving on the wrong side of the road, according to court documents.
Welch refused to submit to breath and blood alcohol tests.
