Train derails 13 miles west of Helena

HELENA - Montana Rail Link is reporting that a train derailed 13 miles west of Helena on and has temporarily closed the railway.

Montana Rail Link spokeswoman Lynda Frost says the derailment happened at around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, when an eastbound train carrying 13 empty cars came off the tracks.

The train impacted 10 other rail cars which were parked near the accident.

Three of the impacted cars were carrying corrosive material, but Montana Rail Link has determined there is no leakage of hazardous materials.

Crews are working to clear the tracks, but at this point transportation is halted. Montana Rail Link expects the line to be cleared by Tuesday evening.

The cause of the derailment is being investigated, and no injuries have been reported.
