MISSOULA - Crews responded after 5 p.m. Wednesday to put out a house fire on the 2500 block of 56th Street in the South Hills. By 6 p.m., the blaze was out and work began to assess damage.
A family member said only one person was at home at the time and no one was injured. The homeowner's son was driving up to the house for a planned barbecue when he saw the smoke.
Family members said right now, they suspect a propane tank was the cause of the blaze. Reportedly, the propane tank blasted across the yard and hit a neighbor's house.
Witnesses said the fast-moving fire shattered glass as it blew out windows and lifted the roof.
The cause and extent of damage is unknown at this time. KPAX will bring futher updates as soon as possible.
