Lawrence Wertz has been identified as the man who died in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 200 near Lincoln on Wednesday.

Wertz, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Montana Highway Patrol was dispatched at 4:37 p.m. to mile marker 67, about four miles east of Lincoln. MHP Trooper Scott Zarske tells us that a pickup truck and a passenger car hit head-on after one of the vehicles crossed the center line around a curve.

Lewis and Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson tells us Wertz's wife was taken to Saint Patrick hospital in Missoula and is in critical condition.

The only occupant in the pickup truck was the 17 year old female driver, who suffered minor injuries.

Trooper Zarske tells us all three people involved in the collision were wearing seatbelts, and that it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors.

The crash is still being investigated, but Nelson says that "brief inattention" may be a factor.
