WARM SPRINGS - Montana State Hospital in Warms Springs has 201 beds but is having a hard time finding space for all the people sent there for mental health treatment.
The hospital's administrator told a Legislative Committee that three times in the past month; he's asked local authorities to serve people in their own communities, rather than sending them to Warm Springs.
“We've had more admissions than we've had discharges and so what has happened is we've come up against our licensed bed capacity fairly routinely. And for safety reasons we've had to call on our community partners to help us manage the mental health needs across the state,” said John Glueckert, Montana State Hospital Administrator.
One problem is that many Montana communities have a lack of adequate mental health facilities.
