KALISPELL- It's still early for bears to start coming down into the lower valley floors, but Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials warn that folks headed into the woods over the holiday weekend should keep their eyes open.
FWP wants to remind people that bears are beginning to stock up on food for the long winter months.
While grizzly bears are not yet at the hyperphagia phase where they are single-mindedly looking for food, many are coming down to lower elevations to gather berries and other types of foods.
FWP's John Fraley says folks headed outdoors need to make sure that food is stored well and should also make plenty of noise while hiking and camping in the woods.
