Western MT schools delayed, closed

UPDATE: The storm that has been dumping snow across western Montana has prompted some school officials to delay the start of school on Thursday in anticipation of deteriorating road and weather conditions.

Missoula County Public Schools had announced that they have cancelled classes for Thursday. MCPS had originally delayed the start of classes by two hours, but school officials have now decided not to hold class. Valley Christian has also cancelled school on Thursday.

Hamilton schools have called off classes Thursday. Stevensville schools in Ravalli County are also closed due to the snow and Florence has cancelled classes for the day and Missoula's DeSmet School is now closed.

Two Eagle River school in Pablo is also closed today and Salish Kootenai College in Pablo has cancelled classes for today due to the weather.

St. Joseph School, Sacred Heart and Clinton School in Missoula County have also delayed classes by two hours. Principal Tim Johnson reporting that Potomac School classes will be starting two hours late with the school buses also running two hours late.

The Frenchtown School District has also pushed back the start of Thursday classes by two hours with a start time of 10:20 a.m. with school buses also running two hours late.

In Ravalli County, Corvallis school officials say they plan to start two hours late on Thursday as well with buses also running two hours late.

Alberton schools in Mineral County will be starting two hours late at 10 a.m. and school buses will also run two hours late.

Not all districts cancelled or delayed classes. Bonner, Hellgate Elementary, Lolo and Target Range schools are all holding regular classes.

The Osher Lifelong Institute at The University of Montana (MOLLI) has canceled all classes scheduled for Thursday and Friday with classes set to resume next week. For more information call the MOLLI office at (406) 243.2905.

Missoula County Public Schools has cancelled an open forum for students and parents that was scheduled for Thursday evening at Seeley-Swan High School due to severe weather.
