WHITEFISH - The start to a new school day is a month away. Construction crews are working non-stop to finish upgrades at Whitefish High School, and the new athletic facilities are top of the line with everything from upgraded locker rooms to a new weightlifting room.
An entire slab of concrete will be covered with a new state of the art entry way and classrooms to complete the Whitefish High School project. It's no small feat building, practically a brand new high school in Whitefish which will probably not be complete until fall of 2014.
But what is nearing completion is the completely revamped gymnasium, weightlifting room, cardio room and new locker rooms. Contractor Dow Powell says the project is well on schedule.
"Excited to see the steel go up today, we're hoping to have the "A" Wing and a portion of the "B" wing completed this week, the locker rooms are coming right along and the gym is complete. We're ready for volleyball season coming up here," said Powell.
The new locker rooms should be ready by mid football season. The steel beams in place will be the skeleton of the new portion of the school and will also form a completely new entry way that faces Big Mountain.
Powell says a lot of care has been taken, "We've taken a lot of care in the design and looking at 21st century teaching and the science wings the art, all the school is going to be high tech and fit with what we're teaching these days."
