WHITEFISH - It was an unlikely scenario for a Montana hunter yesterday morning as he helped save the life of a deer outside his Whitefish home.
Joey Gebbia says he woke up early Thursday morning to his dogs barking, and noticed a deer outside, repeatedly bumping into his house. He soon realized the deer had a bird seed bag stuck on its head and was eventually able to get close enough to the deer to remove it.
Gebbia says the deer would have likely suffocated had he not gotten a hold of the bag, and hopes this acts as a reminder to people to properly seal their trash.
"I think people should be aware of the circumstances of leaving stuff out like that. I never knew this could happen, but obviously it did. I felt really bad for the deer, so I want to make people aware to pick up their plastic bags so something like this doesn't happen again."
Gebbia says helping the deer has made him re-think how often he'll go hunting in the future.
