EAST MISSOULA- They may have been slow to get here but strong winds pummeled parts of Western Montana Wednesday afternoon. And the strong winds in East Missoula were mighty enough to cause damage.

The wind and wet ground pushed over a 20-foot pine tree on top of a house near the corner of Canyon view Drive and Montana avenue in East Missoula. It didn't punch through the roof but it did mangle some of the home's gutters. No one was hurt but it won't be easy to remove the giant timber.

The homeowners were actually in the process of moving when the incident occurred.

The winds also has been blowing garbage and branches around and tipping over garbage cans with the National Weather Service reporting that tress have toppled over in the Grant Creek area as well as on Clyde and Michigan streets in Missoula.

Powerlines were reported to have blown down in the area of Broadway and Maple in Missoula as well. Sustained wind speeds of 50 mph with gusts to 64 mph were clocked by the National Weather Service in Missoula as well.

The rest of Montana has been seeing high winds as well, as seen in the following Wednesday afternoon wind gust reports:

  • Butte 32 mph
  • Bozeman 41 mph
  • Dillon 48 mph
  • Helena 60 mph
  • MacDonald Pass 73 mph
  • Livingston 61 mph
  • Three Forks 59 mph
  • Bozeman Pass 60 mph
  • Monida Pass 47 mph
  • Raynolds Pass 37 mph
  • West Yellowstone 43 mph
  • Missoula 63 mph
  • Norris Hill 47 mph
