The Sweats Fire Complex northeast of Helena has now burned an estimated 330 acres. The blazes are burning in grass and ponderosa pine timber stands that had previously been killed by the mountain pine beetle.

Fire officials are continuing to make good progress fighting the Rumsey Gulch Fire that continues to burn just outside of Philipsburg. The blaze is holding at 349 acres since sparking to life Monday, and is 79% contained.

With all the early fire activity we've seen in the Helena area, one crucial tool for fire fighters is attacking the blaze from above. The Department of Natural Resources and Conservation has already been called in to use their helicopters several times in our area.
