Containment grows on wildfire near Philipsburg

Fire officials reports the blaze is holding at just under 350 acres, and that containment has grown to 90%. The Rumsey Gulch Fire was sparked Monday when a tree hit a power lone.

Fires burn 330+ acres northeast of Helena

The Sweats Fire Complex northeast of Helena has now burned an estimated 330 acres. The blazes are burning in grass and ponderosa pine timber stands that had previously been killed by the mountain pine beetle.

Rumsey Gulch Fire holds steady at 349 acres burned

Fire officials are continuing to make good progress fighting the Rumsey Gulch Fire that continues to burn just outside of Philipsburg. The blaze is holding at 349 acres since sparking to life Monday, and is 79% contained.

Lewis & Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton announced on Wednesday night that Fredrick J. Maw, 18, has been arrested in connection with a string of fires in Lewis & Clark and Broadwater counties.

Helena firefighters battle blaze from above with helicopters

With all the early fire activity we've seen in the Helena area, one crucial tool for fire fighters is attacking the blaze from above. The Department of Natural Resources and Conservation has already been called in to use their helicopters several times in our area.

Fire near Winston continues to burn

The Spokane Hills Fire near Winston, first reported at 6:45 pm on Tuesday, continues to burn. It has burned approximately 55 acres of BLM and USFS land and is about 10% contained.
