MISSOULA -

MISSOULA - Recent reports out of Yellowstone County showing that the number of Sexual Transmitted Diseases are on the rise had MTN News check with Missoula health officials, who report a similar story.

There have been 20 cases of gonorrhea reported to the Missoula City-County Health Department so far this year, only seven less than all of last year, and one less than in 2013. Meanwhile, the reports of Chlamydia, which can lead to sterility, is on the same pace as a year ago, and well ahead of 2013. Most cases involve young adults.

"The typical age of the people we're seeing with these diseases is anywhere from about 15 to 24. That's our average age, but anyone who's having sexual activity could actually be exposed to these diseases," said the health department's Cindy Hotchkiss. "So, we are seeing older people who maybe were removed from the dating scene for awhile and now they're back in the dating scene are coming back with some of these diseases as well. "
