Pet Fest returns to the Adams Center

Posted: Updated:

The dog days of summer are nearly over, and in celebration of International Homeless Pets Day Missoula residents had the chance to make some furry friends on Saturday.

Animal shelters from around the region - along with the Humane Society of Western Montana and Missoula Animal Control - celebrated animal rescues and adoptions with Pet Fest at the Adams Center.

The decade-old event allows people to bring in their pets for games and contests or to adopt a new animal. From wiener dog races to costume contests, Pet Fest has it all and for one woman, the main event was adopting her first puppy.

"We saw the sign out front and so I wanted to come take a loot, and then saw this little guy.  We left, and I just had to come back and get him because I just fell in love with him!  I'm so excited to have a little friend!" Paige Lewis said.

The Humane Society of Western Montana has an adoption rate of 98%.
