Inmate found dead in Flathead County jail

Posted: Updated:

Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Flathead County Detention Center in Kalispell.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says the  Iberica Paulino, 29, of Kalispell was found not breathing and without a pulse by guards making their rounds at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Paulino was being held on Criminal Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Criminal Contempt, and Criminal Trespass. Curry says she was housed alone in a medical isolation cell at the time of her death.

The Montana State Criminal Investigation Bureau has been asked to investigate the death and an out-of-county non-law enforcement coroner was requested, and responded from Sanders County.

Paulino was taken to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy, and the cause of death is pending.
