DEER LODGE -

A man has been charged in the deaths of a Deer Lodge woman and her adult son who went missing back in October.

Powell County Attorney Lewis K. Smith charged David Wayne Nelson, 53, with two counts of deliberate homicide in connection with the deaths of Beverly Giannonatti, 79, and Greg Giannonatti, 57 on Tuesday.

Charging documents allege Nelson beat Greg Giannonatti to death with a hammer and strangled Beverly Giannonatti with electrical wire in a home owned by the Giannonattis on Larkspur Road near Deer Lodge on either Oct. 24 or Oct. 25.

Nelson was hired to work on the property by the Giannonattis at the time and he allegedly stole 17 silver bars from the pair and sold them in Missoula. Charging documents allege Nelson killed the two when Greg Giannonatti confronted him about the theft.

Nelson allegedly admitted to investigators that he dumped the bodies off of Old Stage Road near Gold Creek. The bodies were found by police on Nov. 29. Nelson remains in custody in Powell County jail.
