A 57-year-old inmate at the Missoula County Detention Center died over the weekend.

According to Missoula County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Brenda Bassett, on July 3 at around 12:15 p.m. detention officers were serving lunch when they found Arthur Halks unresponsive in his bunk.

The detention officers began performing CPR. Bassett says medical staff within the detention facility also assisted in life-saving efforts while waiting for EMS to arrive.

Halks was transported to St. Patrick hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Bassett says the cause and manner of death is still being investigated, but it appears to be medically related.

The Missoula Police Department is now conducting an investigation and the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office will perform coroner duties, which is operating procedure.

According to the Missoula County Jail roster, Halks was charged with felony assault with a weapon.
