The Frenchtown School District is using newly installed solar panels as a learning tool in the classroom.

Frenchtown was chosen as a Solar 4R Schools panel recipient. Installed over the summer, it will be used to serve as an interactive classroom tool.

Science and math teachers from fourth through twelfth grade are learning about the panels this week, along with ways to incorporate the benefits of solar energy to their students.

Fourth through sixth grade students will use the information to focus on the construction of solar cars while seventh through twelfth grade students will focus on circuitry and engineering,

“It’s really important that the project that’s on the front of the school gets leveraged as much as possible in the classroom, because it’s one thing to actually have a solar array on the school, it’s another to hear students recognize what’s going on there…understand the importance of it and really have those teachers using it as a place-based tool for their curriculum.” says Program Manager for Solar 4R Schools,
