BILLINGS -

The man arrested at a Billings hotel for allegedly operating a prostitution ring involving minors pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in federal court Monday to all six charges against him.

Terrance Edwards, 34, is charged in U.S. District Court in Billings with two counts of sex trafficking by force or coercion, three counts of transporting a minor for the purpose of prostitution and one count of obstructing a sex trafficking investigation.

According to the indictment, Edwards trafficked five victims, including three minors. The minors are a 17-year-old girl from Minnesota and two girls ages 15 and 16 from North Dakota.

Edwards was arrested in September at a Billings hotel, after investigators tracked down a 22-year-old woman who claimed she’d been held against her will by Edwards and forced into prostitution.

The woman said she had met Edwards online and traveled to Missoula for what she thought would be a dating relationship with him.

But when the woman got to Missoula, Edwards allegedly informed her that she would become a commercial sex worker and that he would advertise her services online.

Court documents detail how the woman was transported across state lines and forced to have sex with men for money.

Four other victims were transported by Edwards and sold for sex, according to court documents. The 22-year-old woman said Edwards would physically abuse her if she did not comply with his orders.

At his Monday hearing, Edwards denied all the charges. He was appointed a public defender and remanded into custody. During the hearing, the prosecutor said Edwards has an “extensive criminal history” and said he needed to be kept behind bars.

Edwards has previously been convicted of prostitution-related offenses, which he later claimed stemmed from a biased and unfair investigation.
