MISSOULA -

The 2016 Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein spoke via Skype to the Montana Green Party on the University of Montana campus Saturday as the group was held a statewide conference to discuss coalitions in hopes of creating real change within communities.

Stein said with the current political stage in disarray, it is a great opportunity for the Green Party to make a significant impact.

"The major questions on most people's minds was, "who do I hate the most between these two candidates," and that is not a democracy," Stein said.  "Democracy is not a question of what we are afraid of and most dislike, but it needs to be our values and moral compass. We lead the way with what we want and not what we hate," she added.

Stein said voters want more than just two options and around 76% of people would have liked open debates during the last presidential campaign which would have included Gary Johnson and herself.

Moving forward, Stein is hoping the Montana Green Party will start assessing real needs within Montana.

"By standing up for the issues that are critical around you -- that's how you build momentum and I think that as you build that and as you connect with other Green parties -- we all build that force together," Stein said.
