BILLINGS -

A Billings man has admitted to possessing 20 images of child pornography which he obtained by setting up a hidden camera in the bedroom of a teenage girl to record her while she took off her clothes.

Jed Carroll Harley Akers, 39, pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Billings to one count of felony possession of child pornography.

Akers’ wife reported him to police in 2016 after she found concerning images on an SD card that was hidden in the garage. Authorities reviewed more than 1,000 files on the card and determined that 20 images contained child pornography.

The video appeared to have been captured by a hidden camera that was placed in a teenage girl’s bedroom. The girl in the video is seen undressing after taking a shower.

Detectives determined that Akers was keeping the videos of the nude 14-year-old girl for his own sexual gratification.

The case was prosecuted in federal court because the camera used to record the images was manufactured in another state, according to court documents. Prosecutors did not indicate in the plea agreement what sentence they would recommend.

A sentencing date has yet to be set in the case.

For Montana, that means reduced services at community healthcare centers and restricted access to national parks, but services like Social Security and airport operations will remain functioning.
