A one-of-a-kind film festival has kicked off in Missoula with a mission to connect the community and inspire action to help the planet.
People filed into the Roxy Theater over the weekend for the kick-off of the 40th International Wildlife Film Festival. A free showing of the new Planet Earth series was shown on Saturday followed by the feature film of the night Chasing Coral.
The Roxy was ready for the event with beer, popcorn and other snacks being sold by employees dressed as animals. Festival producer Jeri Rafter says her favorite part of the event is how small and personal it feels.
"My favorite part of this festival is how cozy it is, it is intimate, it is a place where filmmakers from all over the world come here and it's small enough that you could get to know them, you could meet them at an event or at a film and actually get a chance to talk to them and that's pretty amazing."
The festival runs through April 22.
