Speeds reached 120 miles per hour during a chase that started in Golden Valley County and ended in Musselshell County on Tuesday, according to the Musselshell County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, a 35-year-old Oregon man, was arrested at the end of the chase at 9:12 p.m. and taken to Billings Clinic for a mental health evaluation. The name of the man has not yet been released.

The incident started at around 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday when the Golden Valley Sheriff’s Office received a report of a disorderly man at the Ryegate Bar. The caller reported that the man was possibly armed with a handgun.

As authorities responded to the scene, the man left the bar in a gray BMW. According to a news release, authorities attempted to stop the driver as he was eastbound on U.S. Highway 12.

The man refused to stop and accelerated, speeding past 120 mph at one point, according to authorities. Officers were unable to maintain the speed and lost sight of the BMW near Lavina.

The suspect then entered Musselshell County, where officers met the car at the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 West and U.S. 87 South just south of Roundup.

Deputies deployed spike strips and stopped the vehicle. The man was then arrested without further incident. No weapon was found in the car. The investigation revealed the man is listed as a missing person in the Portland area. It’s not yet known what charges he might face.
