GREAT FALLS -

Members of the Sun River Rednek Robotics team came home as heroes on Sunday.

The team returned from placing in the top bracket out of 128 teams at an international robotics competition in Houston earlier this week.

Team members say they have been building their robot, named Chobani, since September in preparation for the FIRST Worlds Robotics Competition.

FIRST aims to interest youth in the area of science, technology, engineering, and math through robotics.

During the competition team members demonstrated certain abilities during three separate phases in a challenge while trying to earn the most points.

Sun River Rednek Robotics took first at the Worlds Championship in 2015, members say they are nothing less than excited to be taking home the top place standing once again.

"Just jumping up and down and I've never seen that kind of reaction from them. They're pretty stayed bunch, and they really lit up," said Robotics Coach Chuck Merja.

With the Sun River Rednek Robotics' winning the Houston division, they will compete against the world champions from the St. Louis, Missouri, championship in July.
