Several months off of work, for most, would be a welcome break, but for one local Flathead family whose father was diagnosed with a chronic medical condition not being able to work while recovering from surgery is difficult.
Jack Hokanson is widely known in the community as a loving husband and dad, as well as a compassionate mental health specialist who works with youth in our community.
But he was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis, a genetic condition and needs surgery.
Hokanson will travel to Minneapolis in June to have his pancreas removed and his intestinal track reconstructed. Hokanson will be away from his job, friends and family for several months as he recovers in the hospital.
To help assist the family through the recovery period his friends and family are hosting a benefit.
"It's going to require a recovering period of about four months and it would be a good quick recovery of him living in Minneapolis during that time," said a friend of Jackson, Jason Knappe. "The event is to help raise funds to help pay for that time away from home and away from work, keep the kids fed, keep the roof over the head and things like that."
The benefit is coming up this Saturday at Flathead Valley Community College in the Arts and Technology Building from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $10 per person and will include a catered meal from Oso's, a silent auction, raffles, and live music from the Fetveit Brothers.
The family has also set up a GoFundMe page for those unable to attend but still wanting to help out.
