WEST GLACIER -
When you drive into Glacier National Park through the West entrance, right before the West Glacier Motel, is River Bend Road.
It's along this road that intersects Glacier's Going-to-the-Sun Road that Glacier Park Inc. wants to build the West Glacier RV & Cabin Village.
Glacier Park Incorporated's Marketing Manager, Rebecca Baker, says the 102-space RV park will be near the back of the property away from the road with 25 rental cabins closer to the road.
Flathead County Commissioners were expected to vote Wednesday on whether or not to move forward with the RV park, but commissioners asked for more time to review a traffic impact study conducted by Glacier Park Inc.
"Basically what the study found was that the additional traffic from an RV Park wouldn't cause a significant increase in the traffic that we already see at the intersection of Going-to-the-Sun Road and River Bend Road," Baker said.
But neighbors who live along the road say the study was done on the wrong road and during the down season.
"They did it on the Going-to-the-Sun Road which is a state and a federal road," said West Glacier resident Elizabeth Blacker. "This road, in front of us, is River Bend. It's a county road. It's a road that the Flathead County Commissioners are responsible for. If there is a problem on this road it will be our county taxes."
A decision is expected to come Friday. Flathead County Commissioners will meet Friday morning to further discuss and vote on whether to approve the RV Park.
The commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Friday on the third floor of the Flathead County Courthouse for more discussion and a vote. Glacier Park Inc. says if they don't get approval Friday they will appeal the decision.
