Flathead Valley residents honored our country's flag on Wednesday while also celebrating the anniversary of its birth.
The service was held by the Order of Elks and United Veterans of the Flathead Valley organizations.
It opened with a prayer of blessing for the flag and the people of the United States. A reading of "Old Glory" followed with a brief history of our Flag.
The blue in our flag stands for valor, the white for purity and honor in our hearts, and the red symbolizes the men and women who have died in the service of our country.
A new American Flag was rung up and the current flag was retired and burned.
The ceremony ended with the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.
