LAUREL -

A Laurel firefighter hopes the power of social media will help in the return of his firefighting equipment.

Jono DeRudder said his gear was taken during the finale of the Laurel fireworks show on July 4.

His equipment was on the fence by the family VIP area.

After a week, there has been no sign of the gear.

"So I am looking for help on here from anyone who knows who has it or might know where it is. I am missing my coat, pants, boots, gloves, hood, and helmet. This gear is very expensive and I would hate for the department to have to buy me new gear," DeRudder posted.

The gear is custom made. DeRudder also had custom leather suspenders and glove holders that he said he paid for.

"I have already missed multiple fire calls because I didn't have any gear and I would appreciate it's return," he stated in the post.

So far, the post has more than 2,600 shares.

For Montana, that means reduced services at community healthcare centers and restricted access to national parks, but services like Social Security and airport operations will remain functioning.
