Progress made battling northwest Montana wildfires

Over 450 firefighters are continuing to battle a series of wildfires along the U.S. Highway 2 corridor in northwest Montana.

The Lazier Creek 3 Fire is holding at 1,145 acres burned and is 40% contained, There are 300 people assigned to the blaze which is burning south of Highway 2 and west of the Thompson River Road. The blaze has forced the evacuation of some cabins and part of Thompson River Road is closed.

The Rogers Mountain Fire has burned 78 acres and is 75% contained. The fire is located three miles northwest of Happy’s Inn. The 16 acre Grubb fire north of Pleasant Valley is fully contained while the 12 acre Northwest Meadow Peak Fire is now 95% contained. The four acre 2645 Fire is 90% contained.

A Type II Fire Incident Management Team is coordinating the attack on the lightning sparked wildfires.
