BONNER -

Firefighters have established fireline around the Pattee Canyon Fire and aircraft resources have been released.

The Hot Shot crew assigned to the fire is improving fireline and will begin extinguishing hot spots.

Lolo National Forest spokesman Boyd Hartwig says this was a challenging fire due to the steep terrain, high winds and heavy timber

(second report)

A wildfire that broke out Sunday afternoon near Bonner has already burned three-to-four acres.

Lolo National Forest spokesman Boyd Hartwig says that helicopters are dropping water on the fire, which is burning in timber and is being fanned by gusty winds.

No structures are immediately threatened and Hartwig says crews and aircraft are making progress on this fire in challenging conditions. A Hot Shot crew arrived at the scene Sunday evening to help check the fire's spread.

Firefighters are also working on a 1½ acre blaze that is burning approximately three miles north of Frenchtown in the Mill Creek Area, according to the Frenchtown Rural Fire District.

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation along with the U.S. Forest Service are battling the blaze and smoke can be seen from Frenchtown.
