Victim of fatal crash near Neihart identified

GREAT FALLS -

The Cascade County Sheriff/Coroner's Office says that the person who died in the crash was Jamie Schultz.

Schultz, 39 years old, was from Canada.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, Schultz was southbound on Highway 89 near Neihart.

When negotiating a left-hand curve, the motorcycle went off the right side of road onto a gravel pull-out.

The motorcycle slid across a pull-off and collided with a large bolder, and Schultz was thrown against the metal post of a bridge.

MHP says speed may have been a factor, and is still investigating the crash.


(UPDATE, JULY 14) The Belt Rural Volunteer Fire Department posted on Facebook that they, Belt Ambulance, and Neihart Fire were among the emergency personnel that responded to the scene.

They said that it was "a  fatal motorcycle accident." 

No other details have been released at this point.


(1st Report, July 13) One person died in a crash near Neihart on Thursday.

The crash was reported to the Montana Highway Patrol at 1:51 p.m. on Thursday.

It happened U.S. Highway 89 near mile marker 39, just north of Neihart.

There is no word yet on the cause of the crash, nor has the victim's name been released at this point.

The MHP is investigating the crash.
