Helena man survives rollover, killed by passing vehicle at crash scene

Posted: Updated:

The Montana Highway Patrol reports a 33-year-old Helena man died when he was hit by another car on Birdseye Road Thursday night.

Troopers were dispatched to Birdseye Road just north of Barrett for a report of a rollover crash just before 10:45 p.m.

Patrol Sgt. Jay Nelson said the driver was headed east on Birdseye when he crossed the center line, over-corrected and rolled the vehicle.

Nelson said the man was able to get out of the car and spoke to another motorist who stopped to offer help.

When the motorist who stopped drove away they warned the man involved in the rollover to watch out for another approaching vehicle.

The approaching vehicle then struck the man involved in the rollover and killed him.

The man's name has not yet been released. The crash remains under investigation.
