MISSOULA -

Missoula has reached another unwelcome weather record on the heels of setting the record for driest July on record. Missoula reached its 42nd straight day without measurable precipitation on Wednesday, tying the record set from late August through early October of 2012.

The lack of rain is playing an instrumental role in our intense fire season along with other factors including lightning and wind.   There is hope on the horizon, as rain chances are expected to increase next week, though that may cause issues as well.

“That could be good or bad with the lightning from the thunderstorms that we’re going to be seeing and the gusty winds from that, but at least we’ll look at some increased moisture in the area and that should be able to help out a little bit," said Luke Robinson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Missoula.
