More evacuation orders coming for residents near Sunrise Fire

SUPERIOR -

Residents of Trout Creek near the Sunrise Fire have been issued Stage 2 evacuation warnings on Friday and will be asked to leave their homes at 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

The Mineral County Sheriff's Office said the Trout Creek area went into Stage 2 evacuation warnings at around 2 p.m. Friday, and that Stage 3 evacuation orders will be issued on Saturday, August 12 at 7 a.m.

Residents in the Cougar Gulch, Quartz Creek and Verde Creek areas remain under Stage 3 evacuation orders, meaning residents should leave the area. Meanwhile, the Stage 2 evacuation order also remains in effect for the Sunrise and Quartz Flat areas. 

The Sunrise Fire burning in Mineral County has grown to 16,200 acres and is 20 percent contained.

The Red Cross is prepared to open a shelter at Superior High School for evacuees if it is needed. A fire information line remains open daily from 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. and can be reached at (406) 822-9084.
