Man killed after being hit by car in Missoula, victim identified

MISSOULA - The Missoula County Sheriff and Coroner TJ McDermott has released the name of the man who died Thursday morning near Reserve Street and South Avenue after being struck by a vehicle.

The man has been identified as Shane W. Madsen, 39, of Missoula. 

No other details into the crash have been released as the investigation continues.


A man in his mid 30’s died Thursday morning when he was struck by a car in Missoula.

Missoula Police Department spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh tells MTN News that two pedestrians were crossing eastbound at the intersection of South and Reserve streets around 4:42 a.m. when one of the pedestrians was struck by a northbound car.

The pedestrian, whose name has not been released, died from the result of the collision. Sgt. Welsh says the male driver of the car is cooperating with the investigation.

The Montana Highway Patrol is assisting Missoula police with the investigation into the incident. Authorities say they'll release more specific details about the incident once that investigation is complete.

MISSOULA - Authorities have confirmed with KPAX that a pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle Thursday morning.

The incident happened on Reserve Street at the intersection with South Avenue at approximately 4:20 a..m, according to Missoula Police Department spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh. 

The Montana Highway Patrol is currently assisting the Missoula Police Department with the investigation into the incident. The northbound lanes of Reserve Street had been closed in the area causing very heavy traffic delays on Brooks and Reserve streets.

The road was reopened shortly before 8:25 a.m.

MISSOULA - Police have closed the northbound lanes of Reserve Street as they investigate an early morning incident.

An alert sent out by the Missoula Police Department reports that northbound lanes of the busy road will be closed between South Avenue and Third Street until 9 a.m. 

A reader board on Brooks Street states there is an accident in the area. The Montana Department of Transportation reports the road is closed due to car vs. pedestrian accident. 

We'll have more information as it becomes available.
